Inverse Sea Nymph

Hey everyone! This is an inverse version of my recent illustration. I was playing around with filters and I think this looks awesome! Anyway, this was for a re-do contest on old works of art on DeviantArt which I missed. The old version can be found on my DeviantArt account titled "Sea Nymph", you can check it out at: http://hunter-x.deviantart.com. I had a lot of fun with this one. Again, it's a work in progress.

Vamp vs vamp

It's October! I started working on this last month and decided to post it this month only because it had that October Halloween feel. The initial drawing had a indoor background but since I wanted to play more with lighting these days, I decided to place her in the moonlight. However, I had the most difficulty on deciding what to do with the background, so I'm not quite sure this one makes sense. One more thing I would like to do with this drawing is add more texture her surroundings. It's been a month since I've posted but I had a lot going on in September. I hope I can continue to update this blog. Keep checking in! Enjoy.

Survivor

I've been trying to draw more males lately. This one was a challenge because I wanted to draw a person in perspective with the viewer looking up. I hope I achieved that. Comments and critiques are welcome.

Fountain

Hey everyone! This is something I've been working on for a while. I wanted to create something that evokes emotions. I'm still getting used to drawing more facial expression. Again, I'm trying to work with more dynamic poses/movement. I'm also attempting to include more architecture and perspective to my drawings. Thanks for checking this out. Let me know what you think. :)

Dragon Lady

First post of the month! This was the most difficult face to paint so far. I had to look at a reference for lighting and play with colors. I've been trying to include more creatures/animals in my drawings for more variety. In case you all were wondering, I don't show my finish product. Mind you, this is my sketchpad and I only show works in progress. Any comments or critiques would be nice too.

Sandstorm

Trying out more dynamic poses and environmental settings. This is something I've been working on for the past few days. No lineart, just straight up paintings over a quick sketch.

Home

Something I started last year. The sketch has the city in the background from which this young girl came from. It was hard for me to create a nice skyline that didn't look amateurish so I went with mountains. Now that I've gotten accustomed to using photoshop I can probably change the background to it's original concept. I made the final image larger and the girl's position is more relaxed and actually makes sense....hehe. I plan to have little colored fish swimming in the water. I need to figure out how to make the water look like, well, water.

Old works

I found this old image that I did in my Illustration class back in 2008. It's based on a story I made about a young girl getting cured by a witch doctor. This was actually done on large bristol paper and inked it with micron pens. I don't remember the size but I had to scan it by 2 sections. I lost the original and the story when my locker got emptied out :(. I actually like this illustration because I inked it by hand. I don't like the bad perspective though but that can be fixed. I would like to work on it again sometime soon. Tell me what ya'll think!

Pets in progress

This is a drawing I had on my computer for 3 years which I had planned to color at the time. Now that I am more experienced with digital art, I think this outcome is better than my old style in which I used line art. I pretty much painted as I went along and it's really difficult! I had 4 different versions of the woman's face but I'm definitely satisfied with it characters now.

Purple Lady

This is another attempt at drawing a realistic person and I had to use a reference for the face. I'm pleased so far with the outcome of the face but I think her body language needs to be changed a little. Figuring out the background is difficult. I know I want an explosion of some kind but of what? It's starting to look like some beach house in the middle of nowhere so I need to be more creative with that.

Willow tree

Decided to make the boy a messenger bird because it's more nature like. Had to look at a blue jay reference and boy it's not easy to draw birds. I cropped the image because there was too much space on top and now it looks just right. I just need to figure out what else I can add.

Bday gift for niece

Here it is. Cartoon version of my niece Bella. She's a cutie.

So here's an update on "Dancer". I added a background, not fully sure what it's going to be but I did have a dance floor in the original sketch. I decided to add some butterflies flying around her to sort of create an illusion of more movement??? I guess you could say they're dancing with her. Painted the butterflies using a reference. I redrew her hand because in the last drawing it didn't make sense. Now I'm trying to think about what details I could add and also add more color values to make her pop.

First post for 2012! Yeah, it's been a while. I finally got everything I need to start CGing again and I have so many ideas and so much to show. First up is a drawing that I did 3 years ago that I started coloring in Photoshop CS4 just two days ago. I'm trying to develop a new style for my illustrations, something more painterly. I'm also experimenting with brighter colors and different brushes. So far I am about 6 hours into the work. I need to figure out what background I want or if there needs to be a background at all. Still trying to figure out my painting style and I might change some of the anatomy. Here's the W.I.P.
